Kejetia Bus Terminal
The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has begun relocating drivers at the Kejetia Bus Terminal to pave way for the Central Market reconstruction.
According to officials, latest by Tuesday, June 30, 2015 transport unions will cease to operate at the Kejetia Bus Terminal.
The exercise which is currently underway with heavy security presence will continue till the end of June.
Speaking to Ultimate Breakfast with Prince Minkah, the manager of the terminal David Agyei said the Assembly has engaged the over 24 transport unions operating at the terminal over their relocation.
Some of the unions are being moved to the Adehyeman, Race Course and Afia Kobi Market where the Assembly explained have enough space to accommodate the huge number of vehicles and commuters.
“Currently, we are moving the Western region station from Kejetia and the surrounding areas to Afia Kobi popularly known as Abinkyi Market. It is part of the whole reconstruction exercise and for the past four months we have had series of talks with all transport unions. They are 24 in number. They have all agreed to move,” Agyei said.
“I can assure all the drivers that there is enough space, and even the places that we have prepared at the Race Course are bigger than Kejetia Terminal now. The Kejetia Terminal is 10,000 and the Race Course is 12,000. By June 30 we shouldn’t have vehicles at Kejetia Terminal,” he remarked.
