KMA to intensify revenue collection

Kumasi, July 24, GNA - Mr. Samuel Sarpong, the Kumasi Metropolitan Chief Executive, has pledged the assembly's resolve to step up its revenue mobilization drive to enable it to undertake more development programmes.

Kumasi, July 24, GNA - Mr. Samuel Sarpong, the Kumasi Metropolitan Chief Executive, has pledged the assembly's resolve to step up its revenue mobilization drive to enable it to undertake more development programmes. Therefore, the KMA would ensure that there is a reliable revenue collection data, effective monitoring and supervision. He was speaking at a day's workshop organized for the media in Kumasi by the assembly. It provided the platform for Mr Sarpong to give an insight into the programmes of his administration. Mr Sarpong said the assembly's revenue collectors would be assisted to improve on efficie ncy through capacity building and tax defaulters would be prosecuted. He also spoke of the determination of the KMA to decongest the metropolis and called for public co-operation and understanding. Sanitation and security, he said, are the other areas that would engage the assembly's attention. Mr. Tony Mensah, Director of Waste Management Department, called on the people to accept to pay their taxes regularly to enable the assembly to improve its service delivery. He attributed their inability to properly manage waste in the metropolis to the failure on the part of the people to pay their levies, a situation, that has saddled the assembly with indebtedness to some waste management contractors. Oheneba Adusei Poku, Akyempimhene who chaired the function, called for partnership between the media and the assembly to help create better understanding among the people about the assembly's programmes.
