Kumasi, Dec 19, GNA - The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Kumasi on Tuesday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Management Development and Productivity Institute (MDPI), a parastatal institution engaged in management training, consultancy, productivity improvement and research in Accra.

The two-year agreement, which is subject to renewal would enable the two institutions to jointly support the Schools of Business, Departments of Economics, Political Studies, and Sociology to produce a high level manpower resource to fill relevant positions in both public and private sectors of the nation's economy.

Professor Kwasi Kwafo Adarkwa, Vice-Chancellor of KNUST signed for the University with Mr Thompson Kuduo Bibilazu, Director of MDPI signing for his organisation, Under the MOU, the MDPI would occasionally organise workshops for the staff of the College of Art and Social Sciences of the University on effective and efficient management practices.

Both parties, the agreement said, would jointly organise national and international conferences on current management practices.

The general areas of mutual interests in the MOU included collaborative research in disciplines including Public Administration, Human Resource Management, Business Management and Economics. After signing of the documents and exchange of notes, Professor Adarkwa said the MOU would benefit both the academia and industry. He said the University and the MDPI have an obligation and a charge to keep and stressed the need for unity of purpose to enhance effective collaboration.

Professor Adarkwa hoped the collaboration would develop to bring smiles to both parties.

Mr Bibilazu said there was the need for people to look into the poor performance of students and not to put the blame on the academia alone.

He said MDPI is small in size but very active and hope that the MOU was going to be a team work.

He hoped with the signing of the MOU there was going to be a new package of job creation for products of the various disciplines.
