Kasapin (B/A), Oct 25, GNA - A traditional ruler has said education must focus on inculcating good values in Ghanaians to become responsible, patriotic and capable citizens to be able to address socio-economic and political challenges.

Opunuawisie Wiredu Brempong, chief of Kasapin in the Asunafo North District, said developed countries achieved socio-economic enhancement through heavy investment in human resource and appropriate education.

"Education plays an immense role in good governance and there is the need to ensure the sustenance of democracy in the country through inculcating good values in the children so that they will become capable leaders of tomorrow", he said.

Opunuawisie Brempong, who was speaking to GNA in an interview, cautioned "any type of education that is gender sensitive and is geared towards meeting the needs of society is no doubt the cornerstone of successful nation-building". He commended the government for its bold decision to implement the Free Compulsory Universal Basic Education (FCUBE) programme.

The chief said the country has abundant natural resources "but the translation of such resources into actuality to benefit the people can be optimised only when education is made to cover the greater number of the citizenry".

Opunuawisie Brempong expressed gratitude to the government for the rehabilitation of the 10-kilometre road from Bediako to Dominase and appealed for the upgrading of the Dominase/Kasapin road.
