Navrongo(UER),Oct.13, GNA - The Kassena Nankana District Assembly has initiated measures to improve and facilitate revenue mobilization for development.

Mr Emmanuel Chegeweh, the District Chief Executive told the Ghana News Agency in an interview at Navrongo on Thursday that the measure included networking all district cooperatives and registering all houses to enhance the payment of property rate.

He said the district could generate about 82 billion cedis a year on property rate alone if people were taxed saying, "the people are willing to pay property rate but no one in the district was prepared to collect".

Mr Chegeweh said the banks, fuel station operators, ICOUR and private individuals were paying nothing to the assembly and that it would collaborate with stakeholders to reverse the trend. He decried the low rate of revenue mobilization in the district indicating that about 570 million cedis was realised in 2004 out of the estimated 790 million cedis.

The DCE said the District would use its share of the Common Fund to procure 10 tractors to help farmers and also generate revenue for the assembly.
