Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong
The NPP Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Hon. Kennedy Agyapong, has addressed the controversy surrounding his participation in the Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia's tour of the Ashanti Region as part of his campaign.
Speaking during the occasion of his 64th birthday anniversary on June 16, 2024, he acknowledged that some party members were upset due to a lack of prior notice.
"I accompanied the Vice President on a tour to the Ashanti Region, and it didn't go well with some of you because I didn't inform you. Let me apologize for not informing you before I went there," he said.
The Assin Central lawmaker emphasised his unwavering commitment to the New Patriotic Party (NPP), dispelling any rumors of his resignation or plans to run as an independent.
"What I want the NPP party faithful to know is that I have not resigned from the party, I'm not going independent, and I'm still an NPP member," he stressed.
Unity
Hon. Agyapong called on all party members to move past the divisions caused by the recent primaries. "As party people, whatever happened during the primaries, we must put everything behind us and come together as a party," he urged.
He proposed that his birthday be used as an occasion for reconciliation among his supporters. He reiterated the need for mutual respect and cooperation between his supporters and those of the Vice President, acknowledging tensions and urging both sides to work towards unity.
"If he wants us to come together and unite for a united front, then they should also reciprocate the same favor my supporters are rendering. There are no Vice President supporters or Ken Agyapong supporters, only NPP supporters," he indicated.
NPP loyalty
He dismissed calls for him to run as an independent candidate, deeming such a move unwise and reiterating his loyalty to the party. He expressed optimism for the upcoming elections, emphasising the importance of unity.
"With a united front, we can win the elections in 2024," he said. He also noted the presence of the NPP National Chairman, expressing confidence that his message of unity would be conveyed to the party leadership.
He further called on all NPP members to come together and focus on winning the 2024 elections, underscoring the need for solidarity and collective effort. "We are all one. Let's come together and win in 2024," he added.
