Keta DCE shows leadership

Keta (V/R), Feb. 3, GNA - The saying, "example is better than precept", was translated into practical terms when the Keta District Chief Executive (DCE), Mr Edward K. Ahiabor, physically engaged himself in a clean-up exercise that lasted about three hours to rid his hometown, Anloga in the Volta Region of swarms of mosquitoes, which had invaded the area for months now.

Human beings and animals in Anloga and its immediate environs had come under siege by the blood-sucking flies, compelling the inhabitants to take shelter in their mosquito nets as soon as the dusk fell. As a way out, the townsfolk organised a clean-up exercise under the auspices of the Environmental Health Unit of the District Assembly and invited the DCE to grace the occasion.

To the utter amazement of everybody present, the guest of honour turned out in a working gear, leaped into the mud choked gutter and spent several hours to join residents in shovelling mud, draining waterways and clearing rubbish from the refuse dumps and gutters. The news of the DCE's physical involvement in the communal labour quickly spread round, drawing many more residents from their hideouts to join in the clean up from other parts of the community, clearing fifth and draining stagnant waters at various locations.

Present at the clean up were community leaders, Assembly-members, opinion leaders, the environmental health officials, public servants both old and young.
