The Keta Municipal Assembly has started distributing nose masks to market women ahead of the enforcement of the President’s directive on compulsory use of nose masks from Monday, May 04.

Though the directive making it mandatory for people to wear face masks to all public places as part of measures to check the spread of COVID-19 was yet to be in full force, there are notices of “No Mask, No Entry” on doors to offices of the Keta Municipal Assembly.

Mr Godwin Edudzi Effah, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Keta said the donation saw 250 nose masks and 660 alcohol-based hand sanitizers distributed to traders at the Keta Market after sensitisation on the importance and enforcement on nose mask usage.

He said, “the Assembly cannot buy the nose mask for everyone so this exercise is just to educate the public on what is coming and what we need to do to prevent the virus. Already, the Assembly has mounted roadblocks to screen people entering the Municipality but we’re saying that from Monday, without the nose mask, you’re not allowed entry regardless of your screening. It is mandatory that you wear your mask,” the MCE said.
