Keta, June 8, GNA - The Keta Municipal Assembly is to extend power to farms to enable farmers to use electricity to power tube-well for irrigation of their vegetable farms in the municipal area. This was prompted by interest shown by some organizations including financial institutions to support and turn the Keta area into a major vegetable producing area.
Mr Sylvester Tornyeava said this when he visited some vegetable farms in the area in the company of Mr Agbenyefia Lassey, Member of Parliament for Keta, and an official of the Ghana Commercial Bank. The team marvelled at what they saw at the 160-acre Forward Ever Co-operative Farm (FECYF), Uncle City Farms and John Farms all at Woe-Aklorbordzi.
The 60-member FECYF co-operative group is being supported by the African Development Foundation (ADF) of the United States. Mr Tornyeava said the Assembly would establish the necessary facilities to encourage the youth to take to farming. Mr Selorm Deyegbe, Coordinator of the FECYB Farms, said the farms would require 25 poles to carry electricity to their farms and Assembly would make good its promise.
