The Keta Municipal Assembly has declared the morning of Monday, April 13, Easter Monday, a day for general cleaning in all parts of the Municipality to rid it of dirt and germs.
All shops, stores, restaurants, food joints and other businesses operating in the area would be closed until later in the day.
Mr Godwin Edudzi Effah, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Keta speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA), said the general cleaning on Easter Monday, a day popular for picnics would be carried out in a way that would not defy the presidential directive on social gathering.
“Monday’s exercise will not be the usual communal kind of general cleaning where residents congregate at a particular location to clean but rather, we expect every household in the Keta Municipality to individually use the day to make their immediate surroundings clean by clearing bushes and rubbishes around.”
“While we’re doing this to keep the Municipality clean and safe from germs in line with other measures being carried out across the region and the country in the wake of the COVID-19 disease, we’re also mindful of the ban on mass gathering, which is crucial in the prevention of the spread of the virus,” Mr Effah added.
He encouraged all residents to get involved in the exercise and noted that he would be on the grounds to ensure compliance, saying, the exercise was meant for the common good of all.
Easter celebrations are observed in remembrance of the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ as evidence of the atonement for sins and assurance of humans’ reconciliation with their Maker but this year’s celebration is without funfair and social gatherings that come with the celebration as a result of the global pandemic.
