Keta to get basic school complex

Keta, Feb. 3, GNA - The Aflao District branch of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church has put in place the necessary arrangements for the construction of an ultra-modern basic school complex as soon as the District Assembly allocates a plot of land for the project at the reclaimed Keta Sea Defence site.

The project estimated to cost over 600 million cedis will comprise 12 classrooms, an office, a library, a common room, an infirmary, store and WC toilet facilities for both teachers and pupils.

The Associate District Pastor, Carl Ahiably made this known at the end of a five-day camp meeting of 15 SDA Churches in the District at the Anlo Technical Institute, Anloga in the Volta Region on Wednesday. The revival, which drew over 400 members from other parts of the country was held to fast and pray for the progress of the nation and to educate the public on the HIV/AIDS pandemic.

Pastor Ahiably appealed to the DCE to use his good offices to allocate a plot of land to the Church for the project and also urged the District Assembly to support the Church with 100 bags of cement for the completion of a Church building at Anloga.

He commended the government for the successful completion of the Keta Sea Defence Project, saying "the reclaimed lands would help bring Keta and its environs back to their former glories as the commercial hub of the Volta Region."

In a speech read for him the DCE Mr Edward Ahiabor urged Christians to become agents of positive change and instruments of peace, reconciliation and unity to help actualise the far-reaching reforms in the quality of life of the people.

The DCE, further stressed that Christians should act as role models and source of inspiration and guidance to bring Ghana and Ghanaians under God's protection, care and grace.

He urged all Christians and religious organisations to rally behind the President in his effort to reconcile and move the country forward to prosperity.

Speaking on the them for the revival: "united in the warmth of fellowship", a renowned Evangelist and Pastor, Emmanuel D. Poakwah pointed out that a country that had successfully gone through a national election must embrace the message of love and reconciliation in order to move forward.

Pastor Poakwah, who is also Sabbath School and Evangelism Director of the south Ghana Conference of SDA Church, urged the President not to be complacent with his victory because it was God who appointed him to rule over the people for the second term.

The Aflao District Elder, Emmanuel Mawuli urged the youth to abstain from pre-marital sex as the only way to avoid contracting the deadly diseases -AIDS. At the end of the revival, many were healed of strange diseases and 20 new converts were taken through the scriptures and baptised into the faith. 03 Feb. 05
