Keyime (V/R), Aug 08, GNA - Very Rev Anthony Kornu, Vicar-General of the Ho Diocese of the Catholic Church, has advised parents in rural communities to spare no sacrifice in procuring good education for their children.
He said this when he cut the sod for work to start on 757,900,000 cedis school block for the Keyime L.A. Primary School in the Adaklu Anyigbe District.
The project, funded by Manos Unidas, a Spanish non-governmental organisation, was secured through the effort of Mr Daniel Agbesi Latsu, Assemblyman for the Keyime electoral area, with support from the Ho Diocese of the Catholic Church.
The six-unit classroom block will have a library, offices, store, staff common room and a four-seat KVIP would replace a 16 year-old three-classroom dilapidated swish structure.
Very Rev Kornu said fee-free basic education expected to begin in public schools in September should not be misconstrued that education was going to be cheap.
Very Rev Kornu said it is only those parents who would be prepared to pay to educate their children who would reap its immense benefits. "Many of us from rural and poor backgrounds are where we are today because our parents sacrificed everything to educate us and we were also eager to learn."
"The cloths will fade but children do not fade. If you build them up today they will build you up tomorrow."
Mr Victor K. Mensah, the Ho Municipal Director of Education, said enrolment in the Keyime School fell far below what is required. He urged parents in the area to send their children to school as a gesture of gratitude to their Assemblyman, Catholic Church and the donors for providing them with the new school.
Mr Mensah said there are about 188 primary schools and 142 junior secondary schools in the municipal area to be catered for and should therefore count themselves to be fortunate to have such a new school being built for them.
Mad Juliana Azumah Mensah, MP for Ho-East Constituency, promised to provide furniture for the new school from her share of the Common Fund.
