Akyem Asawase (E/R), Nov. 5, GNA - A 230,000-dollar kindergarten school block for the Akyem Asawase Methodist Primary was handed over to the community at a ceremony at the school premises on Tuesday. The building, which comprises two classroom blocks, office and a store, was provided by Siemens Financial Services UMEA, Sweden. Mrs Stella Kwamor Nanor, Birim Central Municipal Director of Education, in handing over keys of the building to the community reminded parents that the best legacy they could bequeath to their children was sound education.

She said "one can leave money but it will surely get finished, cocoa farms can be infested with diseases or bush fires can raze down the farms, but when one is educated his knowledge increases as he grows older". Mrs Nanor advised parents to provide their wards with the needed items and to visit schools to know at first hand the needs and performances of their children. Mr Samuel Appiah-Kubi, a representative of the donor, said the provision of the facility would save children the problem of walking over three kilometers to attend school at nearby Akyem Apaaso and Akyem Awisa.

He appealed to the people to take good care of the project to prolong its life and assured the community of the readiness of the company to provide them with more social amenities to raise their standard of living. Mr Appiah-Kubi assured parents of plans by the company to provide school children in the area with free uniforms to ease burden on them. Mr K. K. Owusu, an opinion leader, at Akyem Asawase appealed to the Municipal Directorate of Education to post teachers to the school on time. He thanked the company for providing the facility as well as supplying them with 30 dual desks, two teachers' tables, plates, spoons, drinking cups, a wall clock and other teaching and learning materials. 5 Nov. 08
