Correspondence from Upper East Region
Member of Parliament (MP) for Navrongo Central and Ghana’s Aviation Minister, Joseph Kofi Adda, has written to two ministries asking for the cessation of the curfew imposed on the Doba and Kandiga Traditional Areas following recent disturbances over a parcel of land.
Mr. Adda wrote to the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of the Interior on April 29, 2020.
In the letter sighted by GhanaWeb’s Senyalah Castro yesterday, the MP strongly stated that the Kasena-Nankana Municipal Chief Executive, acting through the Municipal Security Committee (MUSEC) imposed the dusk to dawn curfew which did not fall within legal provisions.
He said even though he appreciates efforts by the security services to bring the fragile situation in the areas under control to maintain peace, security and safety of lives and property, he did not like the harassment some of the citizens are going through in the hands of the security operatives.
Mr. Adda noted that the harassment by the security, especially at night, was exacerbating the situation, firmly requesting an end to the curfew and harassment.
The letter hinted government of threats by a section of citizens against government on the illegality of the curfew.
