The Koforidua Nursing and Midwifery Training College, has appealed to stakeholders, organizations and philanthropists, to assist the college to put up a boys' hostel, to enable the college to admit more students.
Mrs Doreen Osae-Ayensu, Principal of the College, made the appeal during the ground-breaking ceremony for the construction of the boys' hostel in Koforidua at the weekend, as part of its 50th Anniversary celebration, and maiden graduation, under the theme: ‘Celebrating 50 Years of Excellence in Nursing and Midwifery Education.’
The ground-breaking for the three-storey hostel facility, jointly performed by Dr Michael Agyekum Addo, Chief Executive of Kama Group of Companies, and Nana Baffour Nyantakyi Tutu Boateng, Krontihene of the New Juaben Traditional Area, and Chairman of the school’s Advisory Board, is expected to be completed in 18 months.
The Principal regretted that lack of infrastructure has, over the years, forced the school to admit only few applicants, even though most of them qualify.
Mrs Osae-Ayensu disclosed that, a hostel facility which started 40 years ago was still at its foundation stage, and therefore at the mercy of the weather, and appealed for support to complete these two projects, to help increase the intake of students, especially males.
