Fishermen operating at Komenda in the Central Region on Tuesday, appealed to the government to construct a landing quay in the area to promote the fishing industry and to protect lives and property.
They noted that the beach was rocky and dangerous, which often resulted in the loss of lives and fishing gear. The fishermen made the appeal at a meeting organised by the Acting Chief Fisherman of the area, Nana Kwamina Atta, at Komenda to discuss their welfare.
He said successive governments failed their promises to provide the facility and appealed to the government for assistance to save their livelihood.
Nana Adwowa Nketsia, a 65 year-old canoe owner, said she lost her source of income about seven months ago, when her canoe struck rocks leading to the sinking of the outboard motor attached.
