Accra, Oct 6. GNA - Nana Batafo Nti Akyeampong II, Konongohene, has led his people to plant trees along the banks of the Owere stream that flows through Konongo.

The Owere, which used to be a perennial stream, now dries up during the dry season because its banks had been denuded as a result of indiscriminate felling of trees.

Six hundred seedlings including mahogany and acacia supplied Dr Rexford Osei, Acting Director of the Ministry of Environment and Science, on behalf of the Ministry, were planted. He promised to allocate more seedlings to the people if they took care of those supplied.

These were contained in a press release issued by Environmentally Concerned Citizens Association of Ghana {ECCAG} signed by its President, Mr Joseph Yaw Aidoo.

Nana Batafo Akyeampong, who made the appeal for the seedlings through ECCAG, promised to ensure that the people took care of the plants. He charged the people to arrest chainsaw operators or report them to the law enforcement agencies. Nine members of the ECCAG were tasked to take care of the trees planted.
