Odumase-Krobo(E/R), Dec. 14, GNA- The Konor of Manya Krobo Traditional Area, Nene Sakite II, has called for the provision of the necessary support to traditional rulers to enable them to develop the culture of their areas to attract tourists throughout the year. He warned of the dangers of relaxation in the promotion of the culture of the people which could make them develop into folklore instead of being developed into a way of living.
Nene Sakite was speaking at a seminar on culture and society, organized by the Centre for National Culture under the auspices of the Manya Krobo District Assembly at Odumase-Krobo on Thursday. The one-day seminar was being organized under the theme, "Culture, the hub of society" and was being attended by teachers, traditional rulers, Assembly Members and other opinion leaders of the society.
He explained that it was only by the preservation of our culture that as a people, Ghanaians could also claim to be part of God's creation.
The Eastern Regional Director of the Centre for National Culture, Mr Francis Kingsley Obeng, observed that, every community has a culture, which is the honest expression of the life of that community. He said that community or nation has the right to respect, preserve and raise their culture to the highest possible standard in order to contribute to its growth and development. Mr Obeng explained that, any nation that gives up her living identity was eventually swallowed up and that a nation looses its soul and eventually perishes.
In a welcoming address, the Manya Krobo District Co-ordinating Director, Mr Moses B. Alhassan regretted that, while foreigners were adopting the good things in the culture of the country, Ghanaians were rather adopting the negative aspects of foreign culture. He said the influx of foreign culture through diverse media outlet had made the youth of the country to embrace indiscipline as a way of life.
Mr. Alhassan said the current mode of dressing by some of the youth of the country was unacceptable and also blamed some of the indiscipline among the youth to irresponsible parenthood and broken homes.
