Kormantse to get herbal clinic

Herbalists in and around Mfantseman Municipality are to get a boost in their healing activities when a herbal clinic takes off in Kormantse.

The clinic, for which a land had been acquired, is a collaboration effort of Surfing Medicine International of the United States and the Chief of Kormantse, Nana Kwame Akyen II.

Briefing the Ghana News Agency at Kormantse, Nana Kwame Akyen, who is the Adontenhen of Mankessim Traditional Council, said the project started in July 2013.

He said a team of researchers from the United States, Jamaica, Hawaii and Ghana met and identified herbalists who are interested in working towards the establishment of the clinic in Ghana at Kormantse.

He said herbalists and patients from around the world would work together with local physicians to treat and monitor patients receiving traditional herbal medicine for cancer therapy.

Nana Kwame Akyen mentioned Summer Ragosta, PhD Ethmobotanist, Guy Ragosta, water quality scientist, Alex Asase, botanist at the University of Ghana, Ntim Gyakari, botanist from Kumasi, Ivelyn Harris, Jamaica maroon herbalist as the brains behind the clinic.

He also mentioned Thomas Pohaku Stone III, Hawaiian Kahuna Kabi, Efua Atta, herbalist, Kofi Abbam, Margaret Owusu, Amonyi Hammond, Papa Kobina Ackon, Emmanuel Quayson all herbalists and Kofi Sackey of Odo Pee Herbal Research and Learning Centre as other supporters of the project.

Nana Kwame Akyen said a committee had been formed to finalise arrangements for the project to take-off.
