Kpando to build $2 million Youth Centre

Accra, July 11, GNA - The Kpando municipality in the Volta Region is to build a Youth Training Centre to curb the growing spate of truancy, unproductive hang-outs and equip the youth with vocational skills to enable them to contribute to the socio economic development of the area.

A statement released on Monday from the office of Okpekpewuokpe Togbe Dagadu VII, paramount chief of the Akpini Traditional Area said the project, estimated at $2 million would be launched at a durbar on July 16.

The Centre, when completed, will offer training in several vocational skills, ICT, as well as German and French languages, not only to the youth of the area, but also to all willing and eligible young men and women from across the country.

An elaborate ceremony, under the chairmanship of His Lordship the Most Reverend Anthony Adanuty, Catholic Bishop of Akatsi Diocese has been outlined, commencing on Friday through Sunday to raise funds and cut the sod for the project.

The event will also sensitize, motivate and encourage the youth to pursue life-sustaining skills and vocations that will add some shine to their way of life and engender prosperity among them.

According to the programme, the three day Congress, under the theme: "Mobilizing the Youth for Development", will among other things illuminate the economic and investment potentials of the Kpando District in particular and the Volta Region in general to attract private capital to the area. It will also highlight the numerous tourism attractions of the area.

The event begins with a Youth Forum on Friday at which lectures will be delivered on topics such as Discipline among the Youth, Unity, Oneness, Development and Progress and Youth and personal development. On Saturday, Togbe Dagadu VII will cut the sod for the construction of the Centre during the durbar of the chiefs and people, while church services round off the occasion on Sunday.
