Kpone Katamanso BECE, two reported dead

Two boys were reported dead while one girl delivered three days before the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) started at Kpone-Katamanso District on Monday.

The boys, Master Amuzu Andrews Ashietey and Abdul Rauf of the Kpone Methodist and Michel Camp One Basic Junior High schools respectively, died after short illnesses.

The girl did not write the examination at the Zeenu Centre as a result of the delivery.

Mr Samuel Adu Gyamfi, Director in-charge of Basic Schools of the Kpone-Katamanso District Education Directorate, made this known when Alhaji Essa Antie Tetteh, District Chief Executive (DCE), toured some of the examination centres.

He appealed to the Assembly to provide single desks as they accommodated more students instead of the dual desks, saying; “we are forced to divide the students into ‘A’ and ‘B’ due to lack of space in some of the schools as well as create new centres.”

Alhaji Tetteh expressed his deepest condolences to the families of the boys and prayed to Allah to hold their souls in perfect peace.

He used the occasion to encourage the candidates to do their best whilst wishing them well in their examinations.

The DCE expressed satisfaction at the preparation made by the District Directorate towards ensuring incident-free examinations and urged the students to abide by regulations regarding the conduct of the examination.

He said governments had over the years introduced interventions aimed at promoting quality education at all levels and advised Ghanaians to contribute to the education of their children for national development.

Alhaji Tetteh toured Kpone, Michel Camp, Zeenu, St Patrick and Cedar Hills examination centres where 2,249 students from nine schools in the Kpone-Katamanso District are writing the BECE.
