Apremdo (W/R), April 23, GNA - Mr Mensah Demitia, District Chief Executive (DCE) for Krachi West in the Volta Region has called for effective mobilisation of the area's rich human and natural resources for accelerated development.

He said even though the area has seen improvement in the provision of facilities such as health, schools, roads and water, it was important that the people complement Government's efforts by coming together to initiate viable projects for the area.

Mr Demitia was addressing a meeting of Krachi citizens resident in Sekondi-Takoradi at Apremdo near Takoradi on Sunday. It was part of the DCE's campaign to mobilise non-resident citizens to take active interest in the area's development agenda. "I am appealing to you to actively involve in the assembly's efforts to transform our district from a deprived, impoverished and inaccessible one to a buoyant, prosperous and a model district for all" he said.

Mr. Demitia emphasised that citizens of Krachi have the duty to participate actively in programmes that would enhance wealth creation and poverty reduction among the people. He said the Krachi West District Assembly was collaborating with other district assemblies in the region to ensure security for the people and also check environmental degradation through human activities. The Kadentwen Irrigation project that was abandoned 30 years ago had been reactivated and at the moment more than 30 acres of land is under irrigation.

The DCE said irrigation from the dam would be extended to benefit more farmers to produce tomatoes, pepper, okra and garden eggs. The assembly is collaborating with the stakeholders to improve many tourist attractions including the Denteh shrine. Major Albert Kwadwo Dawohoso, chairman of the Sekondi-Takoradi branch of the Krachi citizens union, said the idea to involve non-resident citizens in the area's development was a laudable one. He commended the DCE for making efforts to bring development to the people of the area and said Krachi citizens in Sekondi and Takoradi would be encouraged to contribute their quota to ensure accelerated development at home. 23 April 06
