Kumasi, Jan. 29, GNA - The Krobo community in Ashanti has appealed to Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene, to assist them secure land for the development of a settlement in the metropolis.

Nene Mate Appiah, Head of the community, made the appeal when the Krobos joined the Asantehene to celebrate the "Awukudae" festival at his Manhyia Palace in Kumasi on Wednesday.

Nene Appiah said his people were anxious to get an area demarcated to them, which they would develop into estate houses.

"It is our wish that we could also be identified with a particular part of the Kumasi metropolis just like other ethnic groups such as Ewes, Fantis, Moshies and Dagombas".

Nene Appiah also pleaded with the Asantehene to extend membership of the Kumasi Traditional Council (KTC) to the Krobos as has been done for some ethnic groups living within the jurisdiction of the council. He lauded the bond of friendship existing between the Asantes and the Manya-Krobo state.

Nene Appiah commended the Asantehene for his tremendous efforts at promoting development not only in Ashanti but nationwide. Otumfuo Osei Tutu promised to give serious consideration to the request made on him by the Krobos.
