Krontihene declares war on chieftaincy disputes

The Krontihene of the Sunyani Traditional Area, Oboaman Bofotia Boaponsem II, has declared war on chieftaincy disputes in the Brong-Ahafo region as his contribution to celebration of the golden jubilee of the region.

He told Space FM in Sunyani that he would embark on a peace walk in his traditional war dress to areas with chieftaincy disputes in the region and compel disputing factions to seek the interest of their communities first by dropping their charges against each other.

He explained that the war dress symbolizes the war he has declared on disputes in some traditional areas and hopes his fellow chiefs would understand and support cooperate.

“As the region celebrates its golden jubilee, I deem it a responsibility to make an effort at creating a platform for the resolution of chieftaincy disputes”, he said.

The regional house of chiefs are using the legal means to address the problems but can you imagine that one day we wake to hear that all factions in the various chieftaincy disputes have withdraw their cases against each other.

The 49 year old traditional ruler, who ascended the Kronti stool in November 2006, believes the region would enjoy accelerated development when chieftaincy disputes are amicably settled.

Oboaman Bofotia II, who recently received an honorary Doctorate Degree from the Ashland University of Ohio, USA for his leadership qualities, noted that chiefs are the best people to initiate and sustain development projects in their communities and every effort must be made to ensure that they co exist peacefully.

He acknowledged that many people see the exercise as a daunting task but added that with God who installs kings on his side and a little support form well meaning people of the region, the battle against chieftaincy disputes shall be won. The Krontihene called on his fellow chiefs to put aside their personal interests and work for the unity and development of their areas since that is the only legacy they can leave when they are no more. He also appealed to corporate organisations and individuals to support the exercise.
