Kumasi South Hospital institutes award for pregnant women

Kumasi, March 2, GNA - The Kumasi South Hospital, which also doubles as the Ashanti Regional hospital has instituted an award for pregnant women who complete their routine medical check-up at the hospital before delivery.

Mrs Vivian Addo-Kobbia, a Senior Nursing Officer at the hospital who announced this, explained that pregnant women were suppose to visit the hospital or clinic 10 to 13 times for check-ups, review and counselling before delivery.

Speaking at the first ever Daddies Forum in Kumasi on Friday, she explained that the check-ups and reviews were meant to help with the proper growth of the unborn baby, detect any complications or difficulties, which the pregnancy was bound to face, and find appropriate solutions.

The forum organised by the maternity unit of the hospital brought together about 80 pregnant women and their husbands to learn about pregnancy and child bearing.

Mrs Addo-Kobbia urged the men to encourage their wives who were pregnant to go for voluntary HIV/AIDS test since early treatment of pregnant women through administering of the anti-retroviral drugs would help save the unborn child from getting infected with the virus. She called on people to adopt good eating habits, especially pregnant women to help nourish the foetus for healthy growth and delivery.
