Kumawu Mourns Her Akyempemhene Nana Oky ere Krapa II

On Wednesday 15 February 2017, the late Kumawu Akyempemhene Nana Okyere Krapa II, who

passed away on Friday 9 September 2016, will be laid in state at Kumawu-Bodomase in

the wee hours of the day. He will be buried on the deep night of Thursday 16 February

2017, with the public sitting to celebrate his actual funeral rites to be held on

Saturday 18 February 2017.

Kumawuhene Barima Tweneboa Kodua V and his elders, Nana Akwasi Bafo II (Kumawu

Akwamuhene), Nana Sarfo Agyekum (Kumawu Aduanahene) and Nana Okyere Darko (Kumawu

Nsumankwaahene) in conjunction with the relatives of the late Nana Okyere Krapa II

will be the chief mourners.

Nana Okyere Krapa II was such a caring father who became a father figure to many a

person who had the opportunity to interact with him. He believed in justice for all

irrespective of how one is; rich, poor, young or old. He strived to earn the respect

of people by himself being respectable and respectful. He never sought to command

respect because he knew, and continually told all those who came into contact with

him that “respect is earned but not commanded” hence they had better do the right

things that will earn them the respect of people.

As a strong believer in the prevalence of justice for all, he never hesitated to

disagree with the unconventional and bullying, if not completely illegal, tactics,

adopted by Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the “Overlord” of Asanteman, to

impose one Dr Yaw Sarfo, a Kumawu Ankaase royal family member on Kumawuman as their

paramount chief (Omanhene) going by the stool name Barima Sarfo Tweneboa Kodua.

He had fought hard in the High Court of Asante Mampong to have his illegal

destoolment instigated by Otumfuo Osei Tutu II in collusion with Kumawuhemaa and

Barima Sarfo Tweneboa Kodua reversed. He was such a strong and fearless character who

could not stomach injustice committed against a fellow Ghanaian let alone, him. This

is the good person that Barima Tweneboa Kodua V has lost among his sub-chiefs.

Kumawuhene Barima Tweneboa Kodua V and his elders and the relatives of the late Nana

Okyere Krapa II do only take consolation in the fact that death is a journey that

every human being or any living thing here on earth, will have to make at a point in

their existence.

What a mighty tree that has fallen! The flame of his courage to fight for justice in

the ongoing Kumawu chieftaincy dispute will keep burning and surely, victory will be

won to glorify his name.

All well-wishers, sympathisers and curious persons who may want to know how the final

funeral rites of the late Nana Okyere Krapa II will be celebrated should please

proceed to Kumawu-Bodomase on the funeral day(s) as stated above.
