The Sekyere Kumawu District Security Council (DISEC) has dismissed media reports alleging heightened insecurity in Kumawu due to the supposed continuous use of armed men by the Paramount Chief, Nana Barima Sarfo Tweneboa Kodua, describing them as baseless and intended to create fear and panic.

In a press release issued on Thursday, September 25, 2025, the District Chief Executive and DISEC Chairman, Kwasi Amankwaa, clarified that the individuals referenced in the reports are not vigilantes or a permanent security force.

“Findings from the traditional authorities revealed that the individuals in question are not a vigilante group, nor are they permanently stationed in Kumawu. They are cultural groups who occasionally accompany the Omanhene of Kumawu during important national and traditional events; such as the funeral of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II’s late mother and other high-profile occasions. Their presence is strictly ceremonial and does not in any way constitute a security threat to Kumawu or its people,” the statement emphasised.

Kwasi Amankwaa noted that the DISEC has taken the publication seriously and initiated investigations to determine its source and motive.

He stressed that Kumawu remains one of the most peaceful communities in the Ashanti Region, with no recorded breaches of peace, intimidation, or disruptions to daily life.

The council condemned the report for seeking to sow unnecessary fear among residents.

The statement reaffirmed the DISEC’s commitment, in collaboration with state security agencies, to maintaining peace, law, and order in the Sekyere Kumawu District.

The council also issued a stern warning to individuals and media outlets against spreading falsehoods that could tarnish the reputation of Kumawu’s traditional authorities and destabilise community unity.
