Authorities of the Akyem Kwabeng Senior High School in the Atiwa District have expressed worry about inadequate infrastructure in the school and said this is undermining effective teaching and learning.

They told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Koforidua that the school with student population of 1,300 lacks accommodation for both teachers and students.

Mr Hagan Kwame-Kyere, who spoke on behalf of the authorities, said out of 70 teachers only four of them have accommodation on campus with the rest commuting from nearby towns to school daily.

“The school does not have a library, assembly and dining halls, and a playing field among others” he said and added that students were sometimes compelled to study under trees as a result of inadequate classrooms.

He said a three-storey building started about seven years ago by the GETFund had been abandoned and appealed to the Fund to complete it.

The school will launch its 30th Anniversary and first speech and prize giving day on March 13 at the Jackson Park in Koforidua under the theme “Access to Quality Education-the Key to National Development”.
