Kwabre Assembly provides accommodation for town and area councils.

Mamponteng, (Ash), Aug. 17, GNA - The Kwabre District Assembly has provided office accommodation for all the eleven Town and Area Councils,

Mr Haruna Salaam, the Deputy District Co-ordinating Director has said. Mr. Haruna said, even though the Assembly was paying the allowances of workers of the area and town councils, it was becoming a problem for the Assembly.

He was speaking at a joint meeting of the Kwabre and Dormaa District Assemblies at Mamponteng on Friday at the instance of the Dorma District Assembly.

The programme is a component of the Department for International Development's Brong Ahafo Support Project (BASP).

The meeting was attended by Finance and Administration Sub-Committees of the Assemblies, Budget Analysts, Facilitators of BASP from the Asunafo, Wenchi, Dormaa and Jaman districts in Brong Ahafo and the core staff of the Kwabre district assembly.

Mr. Salaam appealed to the government to start the payment of the staff of the town and area councils as early as possible to save the situation.

Alhaji Kwasi Yeboah, the Kwabre District Chief Executive said the decentralization programme holds the key to the development of the rural areas and therefore, asked all stakeholders to lend their support to make it work.

He expressed appreciation for the tour and joint meeting, describing it as very unique and useful since it gave the two assemblies the opportunity to learn from each other.

Mr Ben Atsutse, the Dormaa District Budget Analyst who took the participants through fee fixing, asked the assemblies to widen their tax nets to cover all areas of revenue mobilization.

Miss Cecilia Konadu, the Kwabre District Revenue Superintendent called for capacity building workshops for revenue collectors to broaden and update them on revenue generation.

Mr Osei Asibey Bonsu, the Accountant/Administrator of BASP asked the participants to let the meeting guide them to improve upon the financial administration of the assemblies.
