Mamponteng (Ash), Dec. 23, GNA - Kwabre District Assembly mobilised 798.6 million cedis at the end of September 2003 out of its budgeted revenue of 1.1 billion cedis.
Alhaji Ahmed Akwasi Yeboah, the District Chief Executive, who announced this, indicated that the money represented 72.09 percent of the total revenue expected.
Addressing the third ordinary meeting of the assembly at Mamponteng on Monday, Alhaji Yeboah said only 60.6 percent of the revenue mobilised had been spent on recurrent expenditure and hoped that a sizeable portion of it will be used to initiate capital projects.
The DCE charged the assembly members to continue to sensitise their people to honour their tax obligations and stressed that the administration will cede some of its revenue items to the Town/Area Councils for collection in support of community initiated projects.
"Except for the construction of incinerators at Mamponteng and Ahwiaa which had been terminated for delays and shoddy work, the rest of the assembly's projects have been well executed", he said. Alhaji Yeboah told the members that the assembly had received 50 million cedis from the central government for the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).
"Very soon, we shall be calling on assembly members to serve on the management board of the scheme and I am therefore, using this platform to solicit your active involvement in the sensitisation of our people to join the scheme".
The DCE cautioned the assembly members against chieftaincy and land disputes and asked them to stay clear of them unless they become a threat to society.
Nana Asante Frempong, Member of Parliament (MP) for Kwabre, called on the Assembly members to be up and doing to ensure the proper and effective development of their communities.
He said the government was spending huge sums of money on road construction and rehabilitation and cannot therefore go beyond this to do extra works on the roads.
He commended the assembly for its efforts towards establishing a rural bank, which he said, was long overdue.
