Kwahu South Assembly releases GH?30,000 for newly created Kwahu East District

Abetifi (E/R), Feb. 01, GNA- The Kwahu South District Assembly is to support the newly created Kwahu East District to enable it to have a smooth take-off. The new District would receive an amount of GH?30,000, three vehicles, a computer and its accessories, furniture and staff to enhance its operations. The new district with its capital at Abetifi was carved out of the Kwahu South district.

The Kwahu South district Chief Executive, Nana Onwona Asante, announced this at a durbar of Chiefs and people of the Kwahu East District at Abetifi to welcome the creation of the district. He said in view of the challenges facing the new district, there was the need for assistance from organizations, NGOs, International bodies for its speedy development, saying that, the area abounds in tourist sites, educational institutions and a very serene environment.

The DCE said the creation of the district was part of government's programme to extend development to all parts of the country and ensure grass roots participation in the country's democratic process. He said the Kwahu South district has 680 communities, two constituencies, 54 assembly members, 15 Area Councils, 117 Unit committees, 130 primary schools, 78 Junior High schools, nine Senior High schools, a training college and a private University, which with its limited resources was making it difficult to manage. Nana Onwona Asante said office and residential accommodations had been acquired for the staff that would be posted to work in the area, while some philanthropists had given assurance of financial and logistic support.

A Deputy Minister for Local Government and Rural Development, Alhaji Awudu Yirimea, in an address said the introduction of the Capitation Grant and the School Feeding Programme had enhanced education, whiles the National Youth Programme had offered employment to the people with the National Health Insurance Scheme also providing affordable health care. He advised the chiefs, the assembly members and the MPs in the area to co-operate to ensure a smooth take- off of the district to enhance development in the area. Mr Yirimea said the Ministry would soon post competent staff to work at the assembly and advised the assembly members to approve the Presidents' nominee for the District Chief Executive position for effective implementation of government's policies and programmes.

The Chief of Abetifi, Nana Asiedu Agyeman, III, said they had released a track of land for the construction of offices and bungalows for the assembly. He said the Kwahu Traditional area was a united one, adding that, the creation of the new district was to enhance development and therefore urged the other districts in the area namely Kwahu South, Kwahu North and Kwahu West to co-operate and pull their resources together for the total development of the area.
