The Kwahu South District Assembly is to raise 3 billion cedis from its traditional sources to supplement its share of the District Assembly Common Fund to finance a number of development projects in the district this year.
The revenue would be raised from basic and property rates, markets and other tolls, fees, fines, licences and rents.
The District Chief Executive, Mr Raymond Osafo Djan, said this at the first ordinary meeting of the assembly at Mpraeso last Monday.
He said the assembly spent 2.3 billion cedis of its share of the Common Fund last year on a number of development projects including construction of classroom blocks, markets, lorry parks, rehabilitation of feeder roads, provision of furniture and granting of loans under the Poverty Alleviation Fund (PAF).
The DCE said a number of development projects including the rehabilitation of roads in Nkawkaw township, 10 feeder roads, senior secondary schools, tarring and re-tarring of the Nkwawkaw-Mpraeso, Asakraka-Kwahu Tafo-Adawso roads and the construction of gabions at a portion of the Nkawkaw-Atibie roads were undertaken.
He said the district had disbursed 120 million cedis to 120 women traders under the Emergency Social Relief Programme (ESRP), to enable them to buy and transport foodstuffs and fish to the marketing centres.
The Presiding Member of the Assembly, Lt-Col Alexander Owusu Dwamena (RTD), advised the assembly members to assist and co-operate with revenue collectors to raise adequate revenue to finance more development projects.
