Mpraeso, Sep. 30, GNA - Mr Joseph Omari, District Chief Executive for Kwahu South, has said a chunk of the assembly's resources would be channe= led into the education sector to improve academic performance in the area. He said the assembly had approved a number of projects to be undertaken in the area and these include construction of classroom blocks especially i= n the rural areas for the elimination of schools under trees, provision of teachers' quarters and provision of other educational materials. Mr Omari said this during the second ordinary meeting of the assembly a= t Mpraeso on Wednesday.
He appealed to the District Education Directorate to ensure that teachers in the area live up to expectation to enable the district to achieve results. Mr Omari said the assembly had asked the District Education Directorate to find ways of empowering school management boards and the assembly's ow= n education sub-committee to perform their roles well. Touching on the School Feeding Programme, Mr Omari said the streamlinin= g of the programme had manifested itself in the district during a reorganization exercise the government carried out. He said during the exercise it was found out that some deprived schools were not considered under the programme, adding that those schools had now been added. This has increased the enrollment figure from the previous 2,282 to 4,227 beginning this academic year.
Mr Omari expressed worry about the district's performance in the Basi= c Education Certificate Examination results released recently by the West African Examination Council (WAEC). He said the result showed a marginal improvement over that of last year and that there were many schools that performed abysmally low and were on the brink of scoring zero percent. Mr Omari appealed to the Directorate to improve supervision in the schools.
