Fodoa (E/R), Feb. 19, GNA - The Kwahu West Municipal Education Directorate on Friday received 25,000 exercise books as its first consignment to be distributed to public basic schools in the municipality. The distribution of the items was part of the government's supply of free exercise books to basic schools in the country. The Municipality is expected to receive 206,507 exercise books for distribution to all basic school pupils in the area.
Every basic school pupil in primary four would initially receive three exercise books while those in Junior High School (JHS) one to three would get four exercise books, a graph and drawing books. Presenting some of the exercise books to the Municipal Director of Education at Fodoa, the Municipal Chief Executive, Mr Alex Somuah Obeng, said the provision of the items were part of the government's programme to invest in the country's human resource development.
He said the government had fulfilled its electioneering campaign promise to improve the standard of education with the increase of the capitation grant by 50 percent, provision of school uniforms to school pupils in deprived districts and paying of debt arrears of the school feeding programme.
Mr Obeng appealed to the pupils to take advantage of those interventions to improve upon their performances in this years' Basic School Certificate Examination (BECE).
The Municipal Director of Education, Mr Noah Dwamena, thanked the government and urged parents to take active interest in their children's education by visiting the schools to ensure that their children attend regular classes and provide them with other educational needs and also ensure that they study at home.
He said information reaching his office indicated that some JHS three pupils who had been registered for the BECE had stopped attending classes and urged their parents to educate those pupils to change for the better to enable them pass their examination to further their education. Mr Dwamena said the exercise books were not for sale and anyone caught selling them would be arrested and prosecuted.
