Kwaku Nyumah (B/A) Jan. 28 GNA - The Chiefs and people of Kwaku Nyumah, a farming community in Asutifi District, have organized a fund raising rally in aid of an electricity and bridge projects in the town. The absence of a bridge over River Tano in the area has made it impossible for vehicles to reach the town through Norbekaw, a distance of three kilometers.
Resident male and females are paying special levies of 20,000 and 15,000 cedis respectively while non-residents are to pay 40,000 and 30,000 cedis respectively.
Speaking at the function, Nana Amoako Asare, chief of the town, recalled efforts made to get the attention of government to the two projects.
He said the construction of the bridge would open up the area to the rest of the country, as it would facilitate the movement of the people and their farm produce to the marketing centres.
The chief appealed to parents to give priority attention to the education of their children to enable them to develop their talents. In a speech read for her, Mrs Cecilia Amoah, MP for Asutifi South, lauded the communal spirit of the people and urged them to support the government's efforts at poverty reduction.
Opanin Kofi Nsiah, a renowned philanthropist in the district presented a set of jerseys and a football, valued at two million cedis to the youth.
