Kumasi, Jan 22, GNA - Negotiations are far advanced for an agency of the Kwamanman Rural Bank Limited in Kumasi to support over 200 members of the Old Tafo Human Development Movement (HDM), a benevolent society in the Kumasi metropolis with loans of two million cedis each. The amount would help the members to expand their businesses and improve their incomes.
Mr Baba Jamal Omar-Eeps, founder of the movement, made this known in an interview with the Ghana News Agency in Kumasi on Sunday. He said the movement established in July last year, aimed among other things at reducing poverty among the members, majority of who are women.
Mr Omar-Eeps said the movement had been able to organise workshops to equip the members with skills in soap making, bleach, pomade, paint and other products to help them to be self-employed to improve their living conditions.
He said about 40 per cent of the members had since participating in the workshop been actively engaged in the production of the items. Mr Omar-Eeps said the movement was making efforts to solicit funds from other donors to help support its activities.
Mr Anthony K Mensah, interim chairman of the movement, appealed to the Member of Parliament for Old Tafo, Dr Anthony Akoto Osei and the Ministry of Women and Children's Affairs to assist the movement with credit facilities and other logistics. He said the movement would be officially inaugurated this year.
