The Government Hospitals at Kwesimintsim and Takoradi recorded 15 births during the Easter holidays.

Nine births, four girls and five boys were recorded at Kwesimintsim hospital.

Madam Victoria M. Biddier, a Midwife at the hospital told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Kwesimintsim on Monday.

She said due to series of counselling on proper diet, dangers in pregnancy, malaria, and regular visits to the hospital, child mortality has greatly improved.

Mad. Biddier, however, noted that despite efforts by nurses and medical staff, many pregnant women still refuse to attend ante-natal care and only do so when they are about to deliver.

At the Takoradi Hospital, six babies were delivered including a set of twins.

Mrs Alberta Acquah, a Midwifery Superintendent said three boys and three girls were delivered without much difficulty.

She, however, said most pregnant women prefer going the traditional birth attendants (TBA's) and only report at the hospitals when there were problems with labour.

Mrs Acquah noted that the role by the TBA's are very important but appealed to them not to delay in referring cases to the hospitals.
