Kyekyewere, Dec 11, GNA - The Kyekyewere Community in the Bekwai Municipality has been provided with a 10,000 US-dollar bore-hole to improve the water supply situation of the town, which has a population of about 2,000, predominantly farmers. Funds for the project were jointly provided by Nestle United States and Nestle Ghana Limited.

The Managing Director of Nestle Ghana, Mr Samer Chedid, said this was their contribution towards efforts at reducing the spread of the debilitating buruli ulcer infection in the community, which is within the disease endemic area.

He said he was confident that with the inauguration of the project, the people would now have access to safe and potable water. They would no longer have to rely on contaminated stream water as their main source of water.

"Water is life and a vital element in the health and wellbeing of everyone," he stated. "The effects of unhealthy water can result in diarrhoea, cholera, typhoid and other water borne diseases, which drains our health care systems." The chief of the town, Nana Yaw Boakye II, said the community was grateful to the company for the support. He appealed to the Government improve the road network of the area. 11 Dec. 10
