Accra, April 15, GNA - The people of La are to benefit from an 18-unit three-storey classroom block through the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) following an intervention led by the Member of Parliament for La Dadekotopon, Nii Amasah Namoale. Nii Namoale assisted by the La Mantse, Nii Kpobi Tettey-Tsuru III, and the La District Minister of the Presbyterian Church, Reverend I.T Sackey, cut the sod on Friday at a brief ceremony to begin the construction of the project, which is expected to be completed in 15 months.
The first phase of the project, a six-unit block, is estimated at GH¢319,493.66.
The MP, who is also the Deputy Minister of the Ministry Food and Agriculture in charge of Fisheries, said credit must be given to all the people La, who saw the need for the school block to be built and therefore pushed for it to receive Parliamentary approval. The school-block is to provide a modern classroom facility for the pupils of La Labone Primary School, who currently hold classes in a dilapidated ground-school-block that had not seen major renovation for many years.
Nii Namoale said the constituency was benefiting from three separate school buildings under the School-Under-Tree project and asked the La Mantse and the people of La to make lands available for their constructions.
He appealed to the La Trust, a body responsible for the management of Lands in La, to make available plots for one of the schools to be built behind the Ghana International Trade Fair Company. "We need to demonstrate love and unity in La. This is what is needed to promote development for our people," Nii Namoale said and added, saying 93If our children are going to school then we have a future in La."
Rev. Sackey expressing his appreciation to the MP announced also that the International Monetary Fund had provided funds for a library to be built for the school.
He urged parents and guardians to ensure that their children attend school and much more for their wards to desire in furthering their education at the higher levels.
Nii Kpobi Tettey-Tsuru III, stressing on the importance of education, asked Churches in La to use their pulpits to preach on the need for parents and guardians to educate their wards through formal training institutions.
He said 93education is the bedrock upon which a nation or community is developed."
