Construction work on the 120-bed facility new Fomena Government Hospital in Adansi North District in the Ashanti Region has stalled due to lack of funds.
The facility initiated by the erstwhile National Democratic Congress (NDC) government in 2014 was meant to augment existing health facilities in the district and consequently increase access to quality health care.
The project is part of a plan to build six district hospitals in the country at a total cost of $175 million.
The contract for the project, which would span a period of five years, has been signed by the Ministry of Health and NMS Infrastructure Limited (Ltd), a British project management consortium.
But a recent visit to site revealed that the project still requires more work in the wake of the contractor vacating site for the nonpayment of raised certificates.
Former Municipal Chief Executive of Obuasi, Akwasi Ofori Agyemang Boadi who hails from the area has appealed to President Akufo-Addo to complete the projects especially that of the hospital building.
According to him, his enquiries as to why the projects still not completed reveal the contractor packed out of site immediately Nana Akufo-Addo was sworn in as President.
He stated that the life of very Ghanaian is very important and governments should settle any outstanding issues with the contractors for work to resume indicating that the previous made funds available for the projects in the region before they were voted out
Meanwhile, it was also observed that other projects including some classroom blocks for Fomena Nursing Training College and electrification projects to some communities have all been abandoned.
