Lambussie (Upper West) - All the gates of Lambussie traditional area have enskinned Kuoro Iddrisu Yesseh Bamie III as their paramount chief, five years after the death of his predecessor. In a speech read on his behalf Sahanun Mogtari, Upper West Regional Minister, commended the people of Lambussie Traditional Area for the enskinment of their chief without problems.
He said large sums of money that could have been spent to provide potable water, health facilities, telephones, electricity and good roads was being diverted to maintain peace at war-torn areas of the country.
Mogtari said between 2001 and January 2003 the government spent 250 million cedis on peace keeping and chieftaincy disputes in Wa while other areas such as Dagbon and Bawku are even higher. The Regional Minister cautioned them to be law abiding, bury their differences and co-operate with the new chief.
Mrs. Winifred Dy-Yakah, Jirapa/Lambussie District Chief Executive, said the District Assembly was constructing a youth centre at a cost of 200 million cedis for the people of Lambussie and called on the youth to co-operate with the Assembly to realise their development objectives.
She gave the assurance that the District, with funds from HIPC and GETFUND would construct more day-care centres and provide furniture for schools in the area. Mrs Alice Boon, Member of Parliament for Lambussie, appealed to the chief to collaborate with his sub-chiefs to draw up a development plan for the area. The new chief appealed to the government to assist the area with nurses, police personnel, potable water and dams for agriculture to attract workers to accept postings to the area.
