Landing Beach Committees urged to initiate development projects

Mr Kwaku Nicol, Chairman of the National Premix Committee has urged landing beach committees (LBC) to initiate development projects to help improve the living standard of the people in their communities.

He said that would enable the objective for the formation of those committees and subsequent control of the proceeds from the sale of the pre-mix fuel to be achieved.

Mr Nicol made the call at the commissioning of a 32-sitter public place of convenience constructed by the Lower Prampram Landing Beach Committee in Prampram at an estimated cost of GH¢70,000.00.

He warned committee members who were in the habit of selling pre-mix fuel at exorbitant prices to refrain from the act since those caught would not be spared.

Mr Nicol commended the Lower Prampram Landing Beach Committee for coming out with the project and urged them to initiate more of such projects to better the lots of the people in the area.

Mr Enoch Teye Mensah, Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram who cut the commissioned the facility charged the Ningo-Prampram District Assembly to have a management committee to ensure the judicious utilization of proceeds or revenue from the patronage of the toilet.

He assured fish mongers in the area that a modern shed would soon be constructed for them.

Mr Richard Nii Teye Appernarh, Ningo-Prampram District Chief Executive, appealed to the people to patronize the facility and also asked the managers to ensure its maintenance.

Mr Appernarh warned the people to desist from defecating along the beaches.

Nene Sorsey Quarshie VI, Chief Fisherman and Chairman of the Lower Prampram Landing Beach Committee, was optimistic that the project which started in August 2011, would go a long way to address the sanitation problem facing the fisher folks.

He appealed to the National Pre-mix fuel Committee to increase the weekly allocation of pre-mix fuel for the Lower Prampram Landing Beach from once a week to at least twice a week.
