Nsawam, (E/R), May 14, GNA - The Lansing Community College in Michigan, USA has donated 12 lap top computers and their accessories, worth 60 million cedis to the Saint Martins Secondary School at Adoagyiri near Nsawam in the Akuapem South District. The donation was in fulfilment of a promise made by the College's President and the Board of Directors when the Akuapem South District Chief Executive, Mr. Yaw Nyarko Adu visited USA two years ago.
Professor Isaac Addai and Ms Debora Williamson, both lecturers of the College made the presentation when 10 students of the College, who are on a 10-day tour of the country visited the school. The visit of the students was intended to enable them to explore African Culture and learn, in particular the Ghanaian way of life. Prof. Addai told newsmen that the students would visit the University of Ghana, Legon, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology and tour other interesting places, whilst in the country. They would also work in some hospitals and assist students in some selected Senior Secondary Schools in the study of Mathematics, Science, Computing and English.
Prof. Addai indicated that the Lansing Community College would institute a partnership programme with some Ghanaian Institutions so that Ghanaian students would have the chance to study in the College. He urged the youth to achieve higher academic laurels in order to enable them to take the mantle of leadership in future. Mr. Nyarko Adu and Mr. Godwin Atidigah, headmaster of the school who received the computers thanked the donors for their gesture.
Mr. Adu asked both students and teachers of the school to take good care of the items to prolong their lifespan so that more students could benefit from them. He hoped that the collaboration between the Lansing Community College and the St. Martins Secondary School would last forever to the benefit the two institutions.
