Madam Martha Bruckner, Ejura-Sekyedumase Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), has appealed to Ghanaians to emulate the good character traits of the late President John Evans Atta Mills, to foster unity and peace in the country.
She said it was necessary that the citizenry resolved to be truthful, honest and also strive to demonstrate sense of forgiveness in their endeavours as depicted by the late President in his tenure of office.
Madam Bruckner said despite the numerous insults and bashing he received from the citizenry, the late President never responded since he was a man of God.
She was hopeful that the demise of President Mills would help bring the nation together, to advance the development process and political stability for sustainable progress.
Madam Bruckner was speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Ejura in the Ashanti Region, on the sidelines of the one-week observation in commemoration of the late President Mills.
The MCE paid glowing tribute to the late President, describing his tenure of office as a good omen for the nation, as his exemplary deeds went a long way to deepen democracy and good governance to benefit the masses.
She advised members of the National Democratic Congress to nip in the bud all forms of acrimony, antagonism and hatred in the interest of the party.
Madam Bruckner assured that the leadership of the party would work assiduously to continue with the good legacy bequeathed by the late President to enable the party achieve its objectives.
On the programme itself, people from all walks including political parties, religious bodies, traditional rulers and opinion leaders graced the occasion to pay tribute to the late President.
Prayers were said by the respective religious bodies to seek for God’s favour for the departed soul of the late President Mills.**
