Effiduasi (Ashanti Region) 17 June, Miss Agyeman Gyasi, a member of the Federation of International Women Lawyers (FIDA), has advised women to refrain from trying to enjoy the property of their husbands and at the same time going in to struggle for that of their brothers, who are the husbands of other women.
Miss Gyasi was speaking at a clinic organised at Effiduasi by FIDA to educate couples on their rights and responsibilities to ensure peace in the family and also offer them free legal advice at their doorsteps. Explaining the procedure of preparing a "Will", she said it can be done by anybody above the age of 18 and with a sound mind. Other panelist at the clinic, which was sponsored by the American Embassy in Accra included Miss Marian Addo-Kufuor and Mrs. Rebecca Osei-Boateng, all FIDA members.
Miss Addo-Kufuor advised couples toregister their marriages because merely staying together and having children does not make them husband and wife.
She said there were three main types of marriages in the country and mentioned them as customary, ordinance and Muslim, stressing that ordinance permits one wife while the two do not.
