Lawra, June 3, GNA - Mr Albert Kan-Dapaah, Minister of Communications has appealed to supporters of various political parties in the country to avoid acts and activities that could escalate into political violence and throw the country's enviable democracy into turmoil.
He said although the high profile politicians ranging from Party Leaderships to Parliamentarians were forging ahead for the entire development of the country, certain groups and individuals were carrying out provocative activities that could undermine that unity. Mr Kan-Dapaah said this at Lawra when he inaugurated a 380 million cedis Community Information Centre (CIC) at Lawra as part of a day's working tour of the Upper West Region.
He said in Parliament, members expressed divergent views but when they came out they did everything else in common towards the development of the country.
"We are in active politics. We have been given vehicles and other facilities to see to the development of the country and we do not fight, but you people instead of coming together to bury your differences for better development, you are here quarrelling everyday." He was apparently referring to some of the verbal attacks on each other on radio stations throughout the country.
He said the establishment of CICs was part of the Government's move to improve on the human resource of the country.
Mr Kan-Dapaah said the world all over was affected by the economic and technological revolution, which the Government was doing everything possible to keep pace with.
He urged all professionals to take advantage of the CICs to upgrade their knowledge in order not to be left behind in modern communication age.
Mr Ambrose Dery, Upper West Regional Minister, said the Government was introducing the CICs to enable the people to know basic things that would empower them to fend for themselves in terms of basic needs. He said the Government's policy to build on the human resource base in the country was not a political gimmick as could be evidenced by the provision of basic amenities and training programmes throughout the country.
The project was one of the three that were inaugurated in the Region.
Mr Kan-Dapaah also inaugurated one each at Wa and Tumu in the Wa Municipality and the Sissala East District, respectively.
