Alhaji Aliu Mahama, Vice President in the Kufuor Administration, on Wednesday added his voice to the call on Ghanaians to guard the peace the nation was enjoying, even after the upcoming elections.
He assured Ghanaians of the New Patriotic Party’s determination to conduct its campaigns in an atmosphere of peace and tranquility.
Former Vice President Aliu made these remarks when he joined the chiefs and people of the Kpone Traditional Area to celebrate their Annual Homowo Festival.
He was accompanied by Sheikh Damba, Second National Vice Chairman of NPP, Mr. Ishmael Ashitey, Greater-Accra Regional Chairman of the party, Mr. Evans Ashong Narh, Member of Parliament for Tema East, Mr. David Annang, former Tema Metropolitan Chief Executive, and the Executives of the Kpone-Katamanso Constituency of the party.
Alhaji Aliu urged the people of Kpone, to vote for Mr. Soloman Tettey Appiah, the party’s parliamentary candidate, to ensure accelerated development of the area.
He pledged that the NPP government, under Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, would ensure the creation of jobs for the idling youth, the improvement of the National Health Insurance Scheme, and introduction of free senior high school education programme.
Former Vice President Aliu advised politicians to desist from the politics of insults and the use of intemperate and inflammatory language in their campaigns.
On the creation of the 45 new constituencies by the Electoral Commission (EC), Alhaji Aliu said the timing was wrong, since Ghanaians had barely three months to go for the elections.
He, therefore, urged the EC to re-consider its decision to ensure peace and stability in the country.
Nii Tetteh Otu III, Kpone Mantse, reminded politicians that the use of innocent youth to forment troubles during the elections would only lead to chaos and anarchy in the country.
Nii Otu, therefore, urged leaders of the various political parties not to incite the youth to cause trouble in any part of the country.
