The Kumasi Archdiocesan Youth Chaplain of the Catholic Church, the Reverend Father Cecilia Louis Adu-Poku, has underlined the need for schools to give equal attention to academic excellence and good moral training.
Speaking at the Martyrs of Uganda Jubilee School’s speech and prize-giving day in Kumasi on Saturday, he said, schools should focus not only on academic performance but also assist children to uphold the values of decency, honesty, patriotism and service to humanity.
This, he said, was the path to the progress of society, adding that, it was in appreciation of this that the Catholic Church would continue to be associated with efforts at providing holistic education to pupils and students.
In all, 58 pupils received prizes with Master William Boakye Acheampong picking the overall best award with Master Quist Veron taking home the most disciplined student award.
Sister Margaret Mary Marfo, the Headmistress, urged parents to be good examples to their kids at home.
She said parents should avoid the use of abusive and unrefined language and that work and economic pressure should not deny them of spending quality time with their children.
Mr Samuel Oppong Boampong, Tepa District Manager of Armajaro Ghana Limited, a licensed cocoa buying company, reminded parents to live up to their responsibilities by providing for their children’s basic needs.
