Lets do much research on Chieftaincy -Dannaa

Dr Henry Seidu Dannaa, the Minister for Chieftaincy Affairs has called for more research into chieftaincy affairs to establish the correct tradition and practice of every stool.

He said with adequate research into the correct practices and traditions of each stool, issues regarding to succession of chieftaincy would be reduced at the courts.

Dr Dannaa was speaking at the Akyem Kotoku Traditional Council general meeting held at Akyem Oda on Friday.

He said most of the chieftaincy issues at the courts could better be solved through dialogue.

Dr Dannaa indicated that Parliament was considering a bill to empower chiefs to help in the enforcement of law and order in their communities.

He suggested the use of Legislative Instrument (LI) to back established succession to stools to help protect the peace in the traditional areas.

He appealed to the chiefs and people of Akyem Kotoku Traditional Area to find peaceful settlement of issues confronting the area.

Nana Akua Asantewaa III, the Akyem Kotoku Hemaa called on the Minister to organize a workshop for the chiefs on the most relevant sections of the Chieftaincy Act and the role of traditional rulers to keep them abreast with the Chieftaincy Act.

She indicated that the traditional council had not been able to organize meeting for the chiefs due to court action from within, and said this has hindered the progress of the area.

She explained that monies accruing from stool lands revenue were not forthcoming due to the Council’s inability to confirm an acting president to steer the affairs of the council.

The Akyem Kotoku Traditional Council has one of the longest chieftaincy disputes in the Eastern Region, which dates back many years and has often been the source of a threat to peace in the area.
