Liati-Wote, (VR) July 9, GNA - Mr James Komla Dogbe, Hohoe District Chief Executive (DCE), on Tuesday cut sod for work on 200,600,000 cedis drainage project at Liati-Wote in the District to commence.

The Mottey African Development Organisation (MAD), an international non-governmental organisation (NGO) based in the United Kingdom, had donated 200 million cedis for the work.

The people in the area had contributed 600,000 cedis towards the purchase of lumber in addition to communal labour they were offering. Mr Dogbe commended the NGO for supporting the project to supplement government's development effort.

The DCE also praised the people for rekindling their communal spirit and expressed hope that the project would be completed on schedule.

Mr Benjamin Keene, Coordinator of MAD, said it was committed to working to alleviate the plight of the people.

The Coordinator, who was also leader of a 13-member volunteer squad of the NGO, said apart from working on the project, the group would also plant 500 tree seedlings on the Afajato Mountain.

In a speech read on his behalf, Togbe Kordadze V, Chief of the area, thanked MAD for its contribution to the development of the area. He asked his people to eschew laziness and work hard to ensure the early completion of the project.

Mr John Asamoah, District Engineer of the Department of Feeder Roads and technical adviser on the project, said when completed, the drainage would help check erosion in the area.
